A twenty one year old youth has been sent to jail for 7 years after the High Court found him guilty of one count of rape and five counts of incest.

The youth was this morning sent to jail by High Court Judge Justice Salesi Temo who said that what he had done was against the norms of a normal family, as he had raped his younger sister.

He was charged with one count rape and five counts of incest and was found guilty on all charges by the assessors and the High Court this morning.

While handing down his sentence, Justice Temo reiterated that between the 2nd and the 30th of July of 2007, the youth raped his younger sister fully knowing that the victim that she trusted him.

Justice Temo said that taking into account the fact that the youths father had died in 2000, he should have looked after his sister who was at the time of the offense only 14 years old.

Temo also said that incest was a very serious offense and the case was very disturbing as the victim was only 14 years and the youth’s mother who was a house girl depended on him to look after his younger brother and sister.

As a deterrent, Justice Temo sentenced him to 7 years for the one count of rape and 6 years for the five counts of incest and the sentences are to be served concurrently.
