The Labasa High Court today sentenced an 18 year youth man to three years imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to manslaughter.
The court heard that on 14th June last year, Ashish Chandra assaulted a Jamalludin with a cane knife and assaulted him several times.
As a result the victim died at the hospital after five days of the attack.
Judge Justice Sitabarampillai Thurairaja while passing the sentence said that at the time of the incident Chandra was only 17 years old and the victim had started the fight because on that day Chandra and his brother were on their way to work in the cassava plantation after they had passed some remarks to the victims daughter.
Justice Thurairaja also said that the victim died after five days of the incident that showed that Chandra didn't attack to kill the victim.
He sentenced Chandra to three years imprisonment.
