A 21 year old Yale villager Sailasa Balekana from Kadavu has been sentenced to 18 months in jail suspended for 2 years after pleading guilty to a charge of acting with intent to cause grievous harm to 86 yr-old Iliesa Tatara of the same village.

The court heard the elderly man was alone at home when he saw someone standing at his front door holding a cane knife.

He was then struck on the back and the forehead with the knife.

The assailant fled.

Magistrate Aruna Prasad considered the Balekana's guilty plea and gave him a suspended sentence.
