An analysis of population trends in Fiji shows that an increasing number of young adult women are choosing to leave Fiji in search of education and marriage.
This according to USP Lecturer Dharma Chandra who made a presentation at a recent symposium.
She said the end is a key factor in a dramatic slump in the Indo Fijian population.
Chandra said migration of women is definitely higher than men within the same age group and they go for marriage, looking for marriage partners as well as education and the shift in population can have an impact on the fertility in the long run.
She adds that 40 years ago, Indo Fijians made up half of Fiji's population but she predicts that by 2030, they will make up only a quarter of the people living in Fiji.
