The owners of shipping vessels and their captains should note that they will face heavy penalties, if they carry more than the amount of passengers and load extra cargo.
Transport and Works Ministry Spokesperson, Sainiana Waqainabete said they are working very closely with FIMSA officials, to see that vessels do not carry more than what is required.
Waqainabete adds that those vessels caught will be severely dealt with.
Meanwhile, it is believed that a lot of students and teachers are still wrapping up celebrations for the New Year in their villagers and many are leaving it to next week to travel back to their respective places which could lead to overcrowding in ships and delays in travel, as it has done in the past.
The New School Year for 2010 begins on Tuesday, January 26th.
