The Yellow Ribbon Programme will only become meaningful if society gives those who have offended a second chance in life.
Speaking at the Sukuna Park as the chief guest of today, the Chief Executive Officer of the Singapore Rehabilitation Co-operative Enterprise from where the yellow ribbon programme was adopted, Desmon Ching said the challenge is with us all as to how we will treat those who are serving their time in Prison when they return.
Ching said all those who are in Prison will have to return to a family and society where they expect to be accepted.
Also Commissioner of Prison, Iowane Naivalurua said the biggest challenge faced by the Prison department is to whom they will hand them over after they served their time in Prison.
Naivalurua said if there is a question on what is the biggest challenge the Prison department faces it is whether a prisoner will be welcome back to the society once he is release.
Also present at Sukuna park are the Interim Prime Minister, Commodore Frank Bainimarama, Attorney General Saiyad Aiyaz Khaiyum and Commissioner of Police Esala Teleni.
More than 100 prisoners from Nasinu, Korovou and Naboro were part of the Yellow Ribbon programme and they entertained the crowd with Meke and singing.
