Defending champions Yamacia is highly likely to be the first team to qualify for the Cup quarterfinals of the Bayleys Fiji Coral Coast 7s tournament after winning both their pool matches earlier today.

The Semi Kunatani captained side beat Uluinakau Babas 24-22 in their first pool match and later beat Redrock 26-10 in their second pool match.

Laced with the services of seasonal campaigners like Apimeleki Mocekula, Mosese Mawalu, Ropate Labalaba, Luke Navuwai and Anare Saurara, Yamacia scored four tries and dominated play right from kick off to claim victory.

Coach David Dakuitoga said he is happy with the performance of his players and he hopes that they will continue their form throughout the tournament.

Yamacia will take on Gecko’s Lomaiviti at 1.10pm tomorrow.

Meanwhile, the Go Advertising Waibasaga 7s team from the highlands of Naitasiri has caused the first upset of the tournament after beating Davetalevu 12-7 in their first pool match.

Waibasaga scored the first try in the match through Peni Tubuna with Davetalevu replying with a try to Savenaca Rawaca as both teams went to the breather with scores levelled at seven all.

Netani Nadaro then scored the winning try for Waibasaga two minutes from full time.

Davetalevu with the services of experienced players like Emosi Mulevoro, Jona Tuitoga, Apisai Domolailai and Leveni Tani came back in their second pool match to beat a much fancied Ratu Filise side 26-14.

In other results Wardens Green beat Ranagataua 27-7, Fiji Chemicals Vuda defeated Lauli’I Lions 31-10, Tovolea escaped with a 15-14 victory over Western Surburbs while Wardens Gold defeated PNG 26-5.
