Wounds of recent events in Fiji are yet to heal so the impasse continues.

Those were the sentiments highlighted by the high chief and lawyer Ratu Joni Madraiwiwi to the participants at the inaugural Pacific Governance Network Meeting in Sigatoka yesterday.

The Bau chief said on the other hand, the relative stability and as yet apparent absence of hatred and hostility partly suggests the bewildering strength of blood and clan loyalties which crisis cross the political divide.

Ratu Joni adds that the olive branch continues to be extended even as those in power disparage or ignore gesture. He said let us not be like Absolom Kumolo in the " Cry the beloved Country" when he said when they are turned to loving, we will be full of hate.

Ratu Joni reminded participants that our cultures and traditions encompassed dialogue, consensus, reconciliation and forgiveness.

The meeting continues this afternoon.
