Workshops are important so that people will know how to deal with situations especially with regards to those who are sexually abused and used.
These are the sentiments of Fiji Women's Crisis Centre Coordinator Shameema Ali who said they are currently having workshops and deem it necessary as communities need to know about how to prevent and deal with these sorts of situations that affect them.
According to Police statistics for the first five months of 2009, the number of rape and attempted rape cases has dropped by 43 percent, indecent assault by 18%, defilement of girls under 13 by 64% compared to the same period last year, while there has been a marked increase of 67% in the defilement of girls between 13 and 16, an increase of 50% in unnatural offences, an increase of 19% of other offences against public morality and no change in the incest cases.
