The Wages Council has confirmed that it will only call for an increase in the minimum wage rate in certain industries after having proper consultations.
The Labour Ministry's Manager Policy Senivalati Kuruduadua, said brief meetings with stakeholders are underway as many people in the workforce are calling for increases in minimum wage rates.
He added 70% of the workforce in the country is not represented by any union and they will have proper consultations with employers before making any decision.
The Council had its first meeting on Friday.
