The Tertiary Scholarship and Loans Board have started its work to identify students who will be awarded with scholarships under the National Toppers Scheme.
With the Fiji Seventh Form Examination results now out, the Board will decide in few weeks time which 600 students will be awarded with scholarships.
The Chairman of the Tertiary Scholarship and Loans Board, Dixon Seeto said a student first need to score over 300 marks in the FSFE to qualify for the toppers scheme.
Seeto added that government has given them quotas for different areas of studies and this will again be followed for the awarding of scholarships.
The preferred areas for National Toppers Scheme include 171 scholarships for Medicine and Health, 128 for Teacher Training, 85 for Fisheries, Forests and Agriculture, 47 for Engineering, 25 for Mining and Milling, 25 for Land/Town Planning, 20 for Commerce, 17 each for Tourism, Technology and Environment/Marine Science and one for Social Sciences.
Apart from this, 47 scholarships will be offered for Special Areas of High Priority ‑ Diplomas & Certificates.
The National Toppers Scheme is for students who sat for Form 7 or did foundation studies last year.
