Five taskforces will be established with members from the Government, NGOs and the private sector to spearhead and drive the implementation of the Women's Plan for action which has been approved by Cabinet for 2010 to 2019.

Women's Minister Dr Jiko Luveni said the broad spectrum of the Plan takes into consideration the many issues that are important to women but they also provide the opportunity to take up new issues as they emerge.

Luveni said the WPA 2010-2019 aims to provide direction for actions to be taken by the Women's Division with other line ministries and Development Partners to promote gender equality and upscale women's participation in the national development process.

She said there are five Program Areas in the new WPA and these include Formal Sector Employment and Livelihoods, Equal Participation in Decision-Making, Elimination of Violence Against Women and Children, Access to services namely reproductive health and HIV/AIDS, Education and other basic services like water, sanitation, housing and transport and Women and Law.
