Team Fiji ended the two days of gold medal drought by winning 1 gold and 1 bronze on day 6 of the Pacific Games.
The Fiji hockey team successfully defended their gold medal when they defeated Papua New Guinea 3-2 in the final this afternoon.
Team captain Lucretia Smith said it was a tough match but celebrations are on in the Fiji hockey camp.
Smith said confidence was their key to success.
Meanwhile, Sameer Ali won the bronze medal in the Taekwondo competition today.
Team Fiji now have 13 gold, 20 silver and 22 bronze medals.
The Fiji 7s team will meet the Solomon Islands in the 7s rugby competition semifinal tomorrow.
The Joe Savou coached side won all their pool games today beating Vanuatu 45-0 in their opening match. Then they defeated Tahiti 69-0 and went on to beat Tuvalu 54-0 and in their final pool encounter they outclassed Papua New Guinea by 31 points to 7.
Team manager Opetaia Ravai said the players are injury free and are looking forward to defending their gold medal tomorrow.
The other semifinal in the 7s rugby competition tomorrow will be played between Samoa and Papua New Guinea.
In volleyball, the Fiji women's volleyball team is on track for making the qualifying round after another win today. They defeated Tonga 3-1 but our men's team didn't do that well going down to Wallis and Futuna by 3-1.
In baseball, the Fiji baseball team's chances of making it to the playoffs look slim after another loss today. They were thrashed by New Caledonia by 16 runs to 5.
