Women who smoke are more likely to experience infertility and delays in conceiving than those who don't smoke.

Today is World No Tobacco Day and World Health Organization Representative in the South Pacific, Dr Chen Ken this year's theme of World No Tobacco Day is mainly focussed on women as 1.5 million women die due to smoking in the world each year.

Dr Ken said they aim this year is to draw attention to the harmful effects of tobacco marketing and smoke on women and girls and has urged Fiji and other Pacific island countries to protect women and girls from efforts by the tobacco industry to induce them to start smoking.

Dr Ken said smoking increases women's risks for many cancers, including cancers of the mouth, oesophagus, bladder, pancreas and cancer.
