The Minister for Social Welfare and Women is urging women to involve themselves in gardening as flowers are an ideal source of income for our rural women.
While opening the three day Flower Show at the Civic Centre this morning, Dr Jiko Luveni commented that flowers and gardening also helps people to be conscious of their environment.
She also challenged women to mark a new phase in the country's development and turn Suva into a garden city.
Dr Luveni said that given the lucrative tourism market in Fiji, floriculture skills are marketable in the hotel and tourism industry for landscaping and even in the indoor and outdoor decorations.
The Suva Orchid and Horticultural Circle members have displayed their flowers at the Suva Civic Centre and the Annual Flower Show will finish on Saturday at 3pm.
The doors will open at 8am to 6.30pm tomorrow.
