In an effort to economically empower and uplift the status of women in Fiji the Ministry of Social Welfare, Women and Poverty Alleviation is advocating one village one product concept.

Social Welfare and Women Minister, Dr. Jiko Luveni said the Ministry is encouraging women into agricultural commodities with higher income returns.

She said the idea is for both women and men to work together and specialize in a particular product by fully utilizing the resources and skills available in their villages and communities.

Luveni added they are now encouraging rural women to progress and achieve higher returns for their efforts by engaging them into agricultural commodities such as vanilla farming, bee keeping, yasi farming, bread baking and poultry as these products have special markets with higher income returns.

She has reiterated that it is time for villages to realize their potentials and fully utilize the resources and skills available to earn a sustainable source of income and graduate their families out of poverty.
