The largest indigenous women’s organization in the country, the Soqosoqo Vakamarama said our societies are breaking down as shown by the recent increase in rape cases.
General Secretary of the Soqosoqo Vakamarama Adi Finau Tabakaucoro said the reports of rape cases shows that there is decline in respect and responsibility from both the parents and community members at all levels of society.
Tabakaucoro also calls on parents to be more vigilant with their children as the recent cases highlights that the victims were either alone at home or in the care of a trusted person.
An awareness campaign will be launched by the Organization because according to Tabakaucoro many of their members are from the villages and therefore they will be able to reach the grass root levels.
This comes as a 12 year old and two 15 year old students were charged in two separate incidents for allegedly being involved in rape cases.
