The decision by national carrier, Air Pacific to withdraw its services to Narita Airport in Japan has been officially conveyed to the government of Japan.

Fiji's Roving Ambassador Ross Ligairi told the Japanese authorities that through ongoing surveys and reseach by Air Pacific of the international tourism market, it was observed that demand has continued to fall.

Ligairi said the assessment is based amongst other factors, the adverse global economic circumstances including the effect this was having on the robust Japanese economy.

He said Air Pacific had to revisit most of its international air services as a result of the global financial situation and the airlines very survival was on the line.
