Will OFC World Cup qualifiers take place in Fiji
This is the question now being raised by many soccer fans in the country after Fiji lost the opportunity to host the OFC Olympic qualifiers which will kick off in New Zealand this Friday.
Next in line is the World Cup qualifiers which is to be played in June.
Fijivillage contacted the Fiji Football Association President, Rajesh Patel today who said the World cup qualifiers remains in Fiji and OFC has not advised him otherwise.
Patel did not wish to make further comments on the issue.
However, Patel had given an interview to Fijivillage sometime back that he will be holding talks with the Fijian Government to sort out some issues in relation to host the qualifiers in June and what it means to Fiji soccer.
Head of Media Communications of the Oceania Football Confederation, Priscilla Duncan said OFC has not made any decision in relation to the venue of the World cup qualifiers.
Duncan is expected to reveal more details later this afternoon.
Meanwhile, the Fiji soccer under-23 team will play its first match against Solomon Islands on Friday at 11am in Taupo, NZ.
This London Olympic qualifiers was supposed to be held in Fiji however OFC shifted the games to NZ due to contempt of court proceedings against OFC executive, Tai Nicholas in Fiji.
