Wholesalers, retailers warned
Under the Food Act put in place in 2007 and reviewed this year, wholesalers and retailers face a minimum fine of $500 if they do not comply with rules like having the correct labeling on packets or even do not show expiry dates of their products.
Health Ministry Spokesperson Illiesa Tora said this follows a 2 month long training by their Health Inspectors.
A national Food Summit will be held in Nadi this week, to address the issue of Food Security.
Some taxi drivers mostly in the Western Division have been found not using taxi meters especially in Nadi.
When asked what the Land Transport Authority (LTA) can do about this, Spokesperson Ratu Eroni Volavola said they do not have the manpower to monitor taxi drivers and is relying on the members of the public to help them.
However, Volavola confirmed they can cancel the taxi permits of the drivers who are not complying with LTA laws.
