Who will the Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) choose to coach the new Digicel Sevens Team for the next IRB series and to defend the Melrose Cup at the World Championships in Dubai next March?

That is the questioned weighing on the minds of rugby fans in the country who eagerly await the announcement.

If the FRU sticks to the set requirements, Seven’s Maestro Waisale Serevi will be ineligible to be appointed to the position.

The main reason being Serevi does not hold a Level 2 IRB Coaching Certificate, one of the requirements set by the FRU for those interested in the position.

However, Fiji Rugby Union CEO Ratu Timoci Tavanavanua had earlier indicated that he would support Serevi only if the wizard is prepared to work with FRU officials on ethics governing the rugby body.

To date, Serevi, Josateki Savou, Manasa Bari, Iliesa Tanivula, Acura Niuqila and Peni Veidreyaki have all applied for the post.

The Fiji Rugby Union is expected to make an announcement at the earliest by next week.
