Serious concerns are now emerging regarding Athletics Fiji as we have two groups both claiming that they are the legally elected set of officials of Athletics Fiji.

This dispute is still underway and Fijivillage is raising the question on the effects it is having on our athletes with the Youth Olympics in August this year, the Pacific Games in PNG next year and the Rio Olympics in 2016.

The President of the Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee Reg Sanday confirmed that they are currently awaiting the minutes and a full report of the Athletics Fiji’s Annual General Meeting which was held last Saturday in Nadi.

As of now, Dr Robin Mitchell who is the Mediator of Athletics Fiji and who called the meeting on Saturday to resolve the differences has told the officials that all funding to Athletics Fiji is frozen.

The Fiji National Sports Commission will not be providing funding for development or tours.

Dr Ayoade Alakija was elected as President in the Nadi meeting last week.

However, the other group led by Albert Miller claims that they are the legally elected group of executives.

Joseph Rodan Junior, the Vice President of the Athletics Fiji body led by Miller confirmed that majority of the clubs in Suva boycotted the meeting in Nadi which was called by Doctor Robin Mitchell.

He claims the meeting was unconstitutional and illegitimate.
