The least the Fiji Human Rights Commission can do is make a statement showing the public that they are keeping a watch over everyone's human rights.
This is the view of Fiji Women's Crisis Centre Coordinator Shameema Ali with regards to her recent arrest along with 16 other activists for protesting outside the Chinese Embassy last week and revelations that some of the youths activists
However, FHRC Chairperson Doctor Shaista Shameem said every case dealt with by the Fiji Human Commission needs evidence to prove the case.
Shamima Ali and 16 other activist were participating in a peace vigil to show their solidarity with human rights defenders in Tibet outside the Chinese embassy in Queen Elizabeth Drive and were sighted for alleged unlawful assembly.
Those who were taken in for questioning included Ali, Noelene Nabulivou the Coordinator of Women's Action for Change, Edwina Kotoisuva and some other NGO members.
