Health Minister Doctor Neil Sharma said westernization and peer pressure are some of the main causes of the increase in teenage pregnancies.
Doctor Sharma has told the ABC that such influences will always be there and steps should be taken to ensure that people do not have unplanned or unwanted pregnancies.
According to the statistics obtained by the Health Ministry, an average of three girls below the age of 19 get pregnant in a day.
This is based on more than 7,000 teenage pregnancies reported from 2004 to 2009.
