The Western Division continues to top the list of road fatalities in the country compared to other centers and statistics show that this unfortunate trend continues this year.

According to statistics from the Police Traffic Control Division, the road death toll for 2010 currently stands at 32 compared to 26 for the same period last year.

The stats show that 22 deaths on our roads have occurred in the Western Division compared to 6 in the Southern Division, 2 in the Eastern Division and 2 in the North.

Last year 24 road deaths were recorded in the Western Division alone.

From the stats it can also be concluded that the months of December and January have claimed the most lives on our roads, mostly attributed to speeding and drunk driving.

The statistics show that this year 8 people were killed on our roads in January compared to 4 last year while a total of 15 people died on our roads in 2006 which is the highest in the records obtained by Fijivillage.

From the 2010 stats, it is also highlighted that 15 road deaths so far this year involved pedestrians compared to a total of 6 for 2009.
