Director of Westech, Brian Wesson has today spoken out in support of General Secretary for the Mine Workers Union, Kavekini Navuso, saying that he agrees that the Vatukoula workers need to find an alternative source of income.
This follows comments by Navuso who said that the redundant workers should vacate their quarters as the houses will be needed by those workers that will be re-hired by the new mining company, Westech Mining Limited.
Wesson also revealed that they have faced some difficulties in the rehiring process of the 2000 workers that were jobless once the Vatukoula Gold mine was closed.
Navuso had earlier said that laid off miners should not take advantage of their current financial situation and should move on with their lives.
Navuso also reveals that many former employees are staying on at the living quarters without looking for a source of income.
