Roy Krishna’s Wellington Phoenix soccer team along with the Phoenix Academy will fly on the inaugural Fiji Airways Wellington-Nadi direct flight on June 25th to play exhibition matches against the Fiji national team and the Fiji Under 23 sides.

Fiji Airways Executive General Manager Sales and Marketing, Otto Gergye said sports is a huge part for both New Zealand and Fiji, and the new Wellington to Nadi route is an opportunity to bring the two teams together.

He said Fiji Airways are offering Phoenix fans a fare of $476 return from Wellington‑Nadi to follow the tour.

Wellington Phoenix General Manager, David Dome is also thrilled about the partnership as this is the first time for both the Wellington Phoenix first team and its Academy Reserves team to be touring together.

The tour will also give local football fans the opportunity to see Fijian born Roy Krishna play for the Wellington Phoenix right here at home.

Krishna who is the first Fijian to play in the A‑League is enjoying a breakout season, with six goals in 11 games.

He has appreciated what Fiji Airways is doing to promote football in Fiji.

He said being at Phoenix has been an amazing adventure and that it is always nice to play at home.

Meanwhile President of the Fiji Football Association, Rajesh Patel says they are extremely delighted with the partnership and the National team is looking forward to playing the Phoenix at home.

He said this will be a good build up for the national team to the  Pacific Games which will be held in July.
