Well known rugby player charged
Director CID Waisea Vakamocea confirms the Special Constable was doing road block duties at the Flagstaff Police Post when the rugby player who was drunk started to question the officer about his lost mobile phone.
Vakamocea said in the process, it is alleged the rugby player punched the Constable.
The officer received some injuries and was treated at the CWM hospital.
The alleged rugby player will appear in the Suva Magistrates court tomorrow morning. Nausori Police are awaiting the post mortem results of the man who died when the FEA truck he was driving crashed into the railing of the Rewa Bridge before tumbling over the side earlier today.
The truck was travelling from Nausori to Suva when it is believed the driver lost control of the vehicle forcing it over the side of the bridge, crashing and killing him instantly.
There was no one else in the vehicle with him.
A post mortem is expected to be carried out tomorrow to determine the cause of death.
This is the first road fatality on the new Rewa Bridge.
