We will ask for more Pandemic H1N1 vaccine when and if the need arises.
This is the revelation from the Health Ministry as they received confirmation yesterday from the World health Organization that only 80,000 doses of the vaccine will be handed over to Fiji.
Ministry Spokesperson Illiesa Tora said the vaccine would only cover 10% of the Fiji population as this is their projected estimated number of cases that would arise in the country.
Tora added that Fiji has already gone through the panic period but if the need does arise then WHO is ready to assist.
After the National H1N1 Taskforce met yesterday they decided that the 80,000 doses will now be handed out on a strict priority especially to health workers, people with chronic diseases like asthma, diabetes as well as to pregnant women.
Fiji will be getting a total of 80,000 doses of the Pandemic H1N1 vaccine by next month.
