All Blacks halfback, Piri Weepu went from triumph to tragedy an hour after inspiring his team to Rugby World Cup quarterfinal victory when he was told that his grandfather had died.

As a near capacity crowd streamed out of Eden Park after New Zealand’s 33 10 win over Argentina, Weepu’s parents were preparing to break the news of Johnny Lui’s death to their man of the match son.

Weepu who kicked seven penalties was celebrating with teammates when he received the call from his father.

Meanwhile, as the All Blacks bid to end 24 years of World Cup heartache, they are going to make some more changes ahead of the semifinals this weekend.

Team doctor, Deb Robinson has confirmed that Colin Slade and Mils Muliaina are out for the rest of the tournament and will be replaced by Hosea Gear and Stephen Donald.
