The Webb Ellis trophy has arrived in New Zealand.

The Cup has been in England for a bit of a polish and repair, and will be kept in a secure location until the final on October 23.

The trophy touched down at Auckland airport yesterday afternoon onboard Emirates A380 jumbo jet decorated with the Rugby World Cup logo.

The aircraft taxied through an arch of water created by airport fire engines before coming to a stop at the terminal.

IRB chairman Bernard Lapasset from France emerged from the plane carrying the trophy and a welcoming call from a conch shell was sounded.

New Zealand Prime Minister John Key was waiting on the runway to welcome the Cup to New Zealand.

The Rugby World cup kicks off next Friday with the first match at 8.30pm between the All Blacks and Tonga.
