I’m not interested in anything other than giving every Fijian, no matter where they live, the right to see our national team compete on the international stage.
Those are the words of the Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama as he also said that the government will make no apology for doing everything humanly possible to make sure that every Fijian with access to a television set is able to watch the Fiji rugby team in major tournaments.
He made these comments as the opposition continues to question why the government brought in the TV Cross Carriage Decree to allow FBC TV and Mai TV to also show the World Rugby 7s tournaments.
The opposition said Fiji TV was the exclusive rights holder and there should have been no interference as the agreement was signed between Fiji TV and World Rugby.
Bainimarama also said the opposition seems to be obsessed with what happened to two Fiji TV executives who fell out with the board.
He said while his political opponents make a lot of noise from the sidelines, the government is delivering real outcomes for ordinary Fijians.
Meanwhile the Prime Minister has also questioned the opposition on when they will turn their attention away from themselves and start concentrating on the needs of the ordinary people.
While opening the Sigatoka Hospital extension, Bainimarama said all that has been heard from the opposition since the start of the year is how much money they are getting for themselves.
The Prime Minister is asking the opposition to rise above petty politics and personalizing issues when parliament resumes next month.
He said the opposition should help the government address the great issues of our time which are to improve the economy, attract investment and create jobs.
Bainimarama said the opposition should make themselves a New Year’s resolution.
He said instead of being obsessed with themselves and fighting all the old battles that the Fijian people rejected at the last election, the opposition should start thinking about the best way to deliver and to serve.
However National Federation Party Leader and opposition MP, Doctor Biman Prasad said they will continue to raise concerns where they see that it is necessary to do so.
Doctor Prasad also said they are not accepting the parliamentary party office funding because they believe that Finance Minister, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum should not be involved in any of the discussions with the Secretary General to Parliament.
He also said that they want an independent assessment on the pay of the parliamentarians compared to the salaries of the Prime Minister and the Ministers.
