As the whole of Fiji was expecting our swimmers to rake in gold medals at the Pacific Games, there is now word that Fiji was not looking to win any gold medals at all.
Swimming Association of Fiji Board member, Dennis Miller said it was more like developing young swimmers.
Fiji swimming had a tradition to win gold medals at the previous Pacific Games with winning four gold medals in 2003 and two in 2007 games in Apia.
In New Caledonia, Fiji swimmers settled for four silver and 14 bronze medals.
Meanwhile, Fiji swimming team Manager, Lucy Erasito said all their swimmers participating in New Caledonia were under the age of 18 apart from Carl Probert.
Erasito added the senior swimmers who used to win gold medals for Fiji have retired.
