Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Justice, Law and Human Rights, Ashneel Sudhakar says they are not depriving anyone from making submissions or inviting them to hold hearings in their area on the National Flag Protection Bill and Coat of Arms Bill.
Sudhakar’s comment comes after Nadi resident Mick Beddoes had questioned why the Committee was only holding hearings in Parliament.
Beddoes says majority of the people live outside Suva and it is a grave concern that the committee is not ensuring full access and time for citizens to make representations.
Sudhakar says they had made a call for written and oral submissions to be presented to them first to see which part of the country they had gotten most of the responses from.
He says there is no point in holding hearings in a particular part of the country if there is no interest in that area.
Sudhakar adds that people can easily send in their submissions through email, text or post.
He says they will resume taking submissions at the parliament complex next Monday.
