All we are asking for is public support so that we can become better citizens.
That is the plea from life sentence inmate at Naboro Prison Albertino Chandra speaking at the pre-launch of the Yellow Ribbon Program yesterday.
Forty-seven year old Chandra, who was born and bred in Toorak and has spent 7 years so far in prison, said the rehabilitation program has been good for the inmates as they are taught skills that will ensure they earn a living once outside the institution.
The Interim Minister for Justice and the Interim Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum also revealed that the interim administration has so far spent over $200,000 on the rehabilitation program and it will only be a success if society change their attitude towards prisoners once they have served their time.
The Yellow Ribbon Program will be officially launched in October during the Fiji Day celebrations.
