The Fiji Employers Federation said that if there is an increase in the minimum wage rate right now, it would be unfair to companies that are facing economic problems, as they would have to resort to other measures to cover running costs.
Director Ken Roberts said before any changes in the wage rate, the Federation will need to brief members of the Wages Council on the need for balance between employers and employees in different industries.
Roberts added they will wait for a list of new and current members of the Wages Council to be given to them so they would know who to brief and when.
Meanwhile, Labour Ministry's Manager Policy, Senivalati Kuruduadua said employer and employee representatives must find a win win situation with regards to the minimum wage rate.
Kuruduadua added the Fiji Employers Federation's views and needs with regards to the minimum wage rate should be conveyed to the Wages Council through their representatives.
