The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has stressed that they cannot force the Fiji Taxi Union and Fiji Bus Operators Association to apply for decrease in their fares.
LTA Chief Executive Officer Etuate Koroi said only when they receive written complaints from members of the public for the reduction of fares, than they can call for a meeting to decide on the next step on the cost index model.
He added LTA had not received any written complaints from members of the public yet.
Koroi had mentioned on Monday that LTA can only decide on decrease in bus and taxi fares when operators apply for reduction. Both Taxi Union and Bus Operators have denied applying for any decrease however they are calling for further increase in their fares.
