Public Service Commission chairman Rishi Ram said that the recommendation in the draft People’s Charter to have the removal of political interference in the public sector has been a long time coming and that Unions should not be interfering at all.
Ram was reacting to comments from the General Secretary of the Fiji Islands Council of Trade Unions Attar Singh who said that it was the members of the various unions and the public that had put the Commission in power and therefore they had a right to speak.
In the draft People’s Charter Pillar 4, for the enhancing of the Public Sector in terms of efficiency, performance, effectiveness and delivery, one of the recommendations was that political interference be removed.
