Way of old elite must never triumph again-PM
Prime Minister, Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama has made this clear while addressing the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
Bainimarama said apart from a non race based electoral system, the people of Fiji will be consulted on issues like the size of Fiji's parliament and the term of office of a government.
Commodore Bainimarama said it has not been plain-sailing for Fiji since it gained independence in 1970.
He said critics should understand what was happening over the last 20 years as he said Fiji was governed by ethno-nationalism and corruption.
Bainimarama also told the leaders present at the UN General Assembly that politicians in league with those who employ terror as a tactic to push a racial supremacy and corrupt agenda, had become a threat to the safety and security of the people of Fiji in 2006.
He said due to this, with great reluctance the military was forced to remove the then government.
