Water upgrade to be complete by 2011
Those are the words of Water Supply principal information officer Iliesa Sokia who said the rehabilitation work on the Suva-Nausori pipes, which is currently underway, will obviously be felt by consumers because of its technicality and the nature of the works involved.
Sokia said they are not only changing the old pipelines to new ones but are also changing the size and fittings of all major pipelines to meet the demand along the corridor, as they increase the volume of water they treat and supply.
He said water fixtures around the Suva-Nausori corridor undergoing rehabilitation includes major raw water mains, service pipes and trunk mains which have been around for 30-40 years and have gone past its services time frame.
The rehabilitation works, which started in 2005 and is currently underway, cost $70US million funded by the ADB.
It is all expected to be completed by 2011.
