The Water Authority of Fiji have completed major projects to improve water supply in the Northern Division.

Team Leader Corporate Services, Michelle Tevita Singh said they have completed a $200,000 project in six weeks and installed 16 new standby sewerage pumps for the 16 pump stations in Labasa.

Singh said the upgrading works have now addressed the recurring breakdowns of the existing pumps together with the ensuring environment effects and nuisance.

She added the pump stations are now better equipped to cater for current sewerage loadings for Labasa.

Singh also said recently the piping system to Nakama Heights in Savusavu was upgraded and the residents of the area are now enjoying improved services.

This follows the laying of 50 lengths of pipes from Navirea Balaga road junction to Nakama Heights and the connection of water meters for about 30 households in the area.

Singh said the upgrading works also include the installation of a new undeground fire hydrant in the vicinity which cost $64,000 and the project was completed two weeks ahead of schedule.
