Water levels at Monasavu Dam continues to decrease
Fijivillage News has managed to obtain the Monasavu dam level readings over the last seven days.
The readings show that rain started on October 7th with 8mm of rain recorded with 31mm on Friday, 3mm between Saturday to Monday on the Fiji day long weekend, and 21 mm yesterday.
It also shows that 36.8 mm rain was recorded on Tuesday while yesterday's reading was 35mm.
However, FEA's Acting CEO and General Manager Generation, Eparama Tawake said taking into account the rain fall received for the past few days, the levels are just a few meters above the critical level.
Tawake revealed that FEA considers 715m to be the critical level and considering the level now sits at 727.12 meters, it means they are not out of the danger zone yet.
But with more rain forecast over the next few days, hopes are high that the water levels at Monasavu will start to increase which would ease the burden on FEA to generate power using diesel.
Meanwhile, a flash flood warning of low lying areas remains in place for the Fiji group.
The Nadi Weather Office said an active trough of low pressure with associated cloud and rain remains slow moving over the group, with periods of rain, heavy at times and squally thunderstorms.
It said flash flooding of low lying areas is likely.
