Water cuts to continue till next week
Water Supply spokesperson Central/Eastern Maika Nagalu said people living in Brown Street, Gorrie Street, Tawa Street, Nacara in Vatuwaqa, USP, Grantham Road, Desvoeux Road, Selbourne Street and the Government Buildings can expect continuous water cuts until work is complete.
Nagalu also confirmed that private contractors have now been hired to cart water to the affected areas as repair works on the collapsed water mains in Laqere continue.
He said water supply has normalized in most parts of Tuirara, Tovata, upper areas of Makoi, Valelevu, Tacirua East, Cunningham, New Town, Caubati, Laucala Beach, Raiwaqa, Vatuwaqa, Rifle Range and supply is not expected to be disrupted unless they face further problems with the Wainibuku Water Pump.
These areas faced water cuts due to a mechanical fault at the Wainibuku system.
Meanwhile, the Works Ministry is closely monitoring and continuously replenishing the water levels at the Tamavua and Wainibuku reservoirs as water has been redirected from these two systems to cater for other areas facing water cuts.
Nagalu confirmed the redirecting of supply is also causing water disruptions and low water pressure in areas from Delainavesi to Vesari.
