The Water Department will be carrying out detection exercises for this month in order to find leakage in our pipes.
Media Liaison Officer, Sainiana Waqainabete has confirmed that there has been a high volume of leakage which needs to be controlled.
According to Waqainabete, 30 per cent of water generated in Suva was lost due to leakage, and in the Western Division it is estimated that around 30 to 40 percent was lost.
She said most pipelines are old and it’s very hard to determine the actual points that are leaking.
Meanwhile, Works and Public Utilities Minister, Colonel Timoci Natuva has given the directive to audit all the water metres to address the issue of water being sourced illegally.
