A campaign will be launched today by the Land Transport Authority to reduce vehicle emission for a cleaner environment. The purpose is basically to improve and control the smoke emitted from the exhaust pipe of the vehicles.
LTA Chief Executive, Etuate Koroi said that when the Health Ministry advises people not to smoke because it causes lung cancer, it is no different from a person inhaling smoke from a bus or vehicle.
Koroi said vehicle owners should not ignore the time to take their cars for maintenance, which is one of the contributing factors in eliminating smoke.
In this joint initiative LTA is working with Police, the Ministry of Environment and the Health officials to track down the vehicles.
Koroi said they are also looking at increasing fines which used to be $14.
