The Wardens Gold 7s team has suffered a major setback ahead of the Coral Coast 7s tournament after the unavailability of many of their star players for this weekend’s Great Eight 7s tournament.

Coach Timoci Wainiqolo has revealed that Ilai Tinai is not training with the team, nippy playmaker Kelepi Moua is still nursing an injury while former Digicel Fiji 7s Captain Setefano Cakau is in Sri Lanka for club commitments.

Wainiqolo added their preparation will not be affected as they have other senior players in the team with the likes of Sakiusa Nadruku and Leone Naikasau.

Wardens last won the Coral Coast 7s in 2011 and will need to qualify for the quarterfinals in this weekend’s Great Eight 7s to claim a spot in the upcoming Coral Coast 7s next month.

Wardens will take on Tabadamu in their first match at 10.20am tomorrow.

The Great Eight 7s kicks off tomorrow at Lawaqa Park with Tokatoka Resort taking on Guardforce at 9.40am.

Meanwhile, the Coral Coast 7s will be held from the 14th to the 16th of next month.
