Interim Commerce and Communications Minister, Taito Waradi is optimistic that they will be able to reach an agreement with Amalgamated Telecom Holdings this weekend.
Waradi said the Promulgation of the Telecommunications bill has opened the market and the exclusive telecommunications license held with FINTEL, Telecom Fiji and Vodafone Fiji will come to an end after negotiations with ATH over the next few days.
Waradi said they had some talks with ATH officials and they have already reached common ground in relation to some issues.
Talks between the interim government and ATH will start in the Western Division from tomorrow.
Cabinet is expected to make an announcement in relation to new mobile phone licenses on Tuesday.
