A team of 50 officers from both the Fiji Police Force and the RFMF are currently combing the terrains of the Navosa Highlands as the war against drugs intensifies.

Operation Cavuraka commenced last Friday and day one of the raids has seen one of the teams uproot more than 3000 marijuana plants from three farms.

Chief of Intelligence and Investigations ACP Luke Navela says farmers are now moving and farming further in land in more treacherous terrains.

ACP Navela said the farms are located in extremely hard to reach places and their men have trekked for hours and over the weekend in a bid to locate these farms.

He said that they have identified quite a few farms and because the Government analyst is a part of the team, tests are conducted at the scene before the plants are destroyed.

The 3,000 plants range from 2cm to over 1 meter in height.

A police officer destroys the marijuana plants uprooted by burning them.

He said one of the teams has destroyed what seemed to be a nursery where young seedlings were discovered.

ACP Navela added that another team is conducting investigations on who are involved in the trade as well.

Meanwhile, Commissioner of Police Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho said that those in the drug business will be caught.
