Former national rugby 7s assistant coach Etuate Waqa believes he has the magic touches to put Fiji back to where it really belongs in the abbreviated code.

Speaking from Tonga to Fijivillage last night, Waqa said if given the honor to coach our national team, one of the first things he will do is bring back the right players.

Waqa added he could not do much during his term as Alifereti Dere’s assistant.

Meanwhile, some overseas coaches have applied for the Digicel Fiji 7s team coaching job.

This has been revealed by FRU chief executive officer Manasa Baravilala who said they are still collating the information and he does not have the actual number of coaches that applied.

Former England 7s coach Ben Ryan has also shown interest in coaching Fiji.

When Fijivillage asked if there is a possibility that an overseas coach will replace Alifereti Dere, Baravilala said anything is possible.

The new national 7s coach will guide the team to the upcoming World Series which kicks off in Australia in October.

Fiji’s top whistleman James Bolabiu has been appointed again as one of the 17 referees to the nine round series.
