Wallabies coach Michael Cheika has queried the role of the television match official after referee requests to watch replays on the big screen were denied in their 29-26 loss to France over the weekend.

Cheika had issues with the use of the TMO after Australia's loss to France in Paris.

He said there were a range of issues with its use around illegal tackles.

In the dying minutes of the match, Wallabies hooker Saia Fainga'a was hit with what appeared to be an illegal clean out at a ruck but when referee Nigel Owens asked to see the replay, it was not put on the big screen.

Cheika said he will talk to the IRB officials about it.

Ireland will host Australia at 5.30am on Sunday.
